EXCLUSIVE: “Nothing can describe how complete I feel as a person with the arrival of this baby”, says Dia Mirza about her new role as a mother

Last year in April 2021, Dia Mirza had announced that she was pregnant and expecting her first child, however soon the actress notified her fans and followers that she had been experience complication in her pregnancy and her health as well. Following this, Dia gave birth to a premature baby, Avyaan Azaad Rekhi who had to be kept in the NICU for the subsequent couple of months. Now, in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Dia Mirza opened up about motherhood, how it has changed her as a person, as well as the issues she has had to face during and after her pregnancy.

Talking about becoming a mother, Dia claimed that apart from being the best phase of her life, she has always wanted to be a mother, “There is so much to be grateful and thankful for. I have been blessed with a beautiful child, I am experiencing a phase of life that I long awaited, and I am enjoying it fully, and doing the most meaningful work of my career. I have been the kind of person who has always wanted a child. Even when I was a child myself, I wanted to be a mother. So I think the maternal instinct has been very innate to me. I have always mothered mall my friends and colleagues and I am sure they will all vouch for it. So I really wanted to be a mother, and this child came to me after a lot of waiting and prayer. Nothing can describe how complete I feel as a person with the arrival of this baby. I feel like I have had a cellular shift, it’s like every part of my being has been touched by this soul, and every day is filled with wonder and magic and love... its something else.”

Later talking about her pregnancy and how it affected her, Dia Mirza continued, “I often wonder would it have been different if it (pregnancy) had happened earlier. But I think God's timing is perfect, everything has happened at the time it was meant to happen, and it has been really wonderful. I have also gone through a lot of challenges in the last year and a half, medically... and there have been all types of complications. But it is very interesting that when you find your centre and you find your sense of balance and calm you just ride through it all. It does not impact you like it otherwise does. I remember I have had to deal with all kinds of crises in life, especially life threatening illnesses for parents and all, but I cannot remember being so calm though it all, like I have now. So yeah, there has been some shift that has happened.”

Back on the work front, Dia Mirza who recently became a mother has been on sabbatical from the world of films. Currently, the model turned actress and producer turned environmental activist is focussing on enjoying her role as a mother and doting on her son, Dia seems to be in no hurry to return to the big screen.
