Veteran Bollywood producer Mukesh Bhatt recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama to discuss his latest production, Savi, which has just been released on Netflix. Joined by director Abhinay Deo and actress Divya Khosla, Bhatt shared his thoughts on filmmaking and addressed the criticism surrounding one of his most controversial films, Murder.

During the interview, Mukesh Bhatt spoke about his commitment to creating films that can be watched by audiences of all ages, stating, "I make films that I am not embarrassed to watch with my sister, mother, or a child." However, when the interviewer pointed out that Murder might not be suitable for family viewing, Bhatt was quick to defend the film.

Mukesh Bhatt DEFENDS Murder

Mukesh Bhatt drew a clear distinction between erotism and vulgarity, defending his approach to sensual scenes in his films. "There is a difference between eroticism and vulgarity. You can make the most lyrical love-making scene in a film, and you can make it the most obnoxious, vulgar, and cheap. It’s the eye, how you want to capture it. It is very important," Bhatt explained.

He further praised Mallika Sherawat, the lead actress in Murder, for her portrayal of sensuality without crossing into vulgarity. "Mallika was a very sensuous actress of that time. But there was no vulgarity in it. She was presented very sensuously. And that’s what I did with Bipasha [Basu] in Raaz; for that matter, Jacqueline [Fernandez] in Murder 2. If a girl is attractive and she is sensuous, present that in a nice way, not in a vulgar way, not in a cheap way."

CBFC Approved Murder, Murder 2, Raaz Without A Cut

To further support his stance, Bhatt highlighted that his films, including Murder, passed the scrutiny of the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) without any objections. "When I made these films and showed them to the censors, not a single shot was objected to, and they got U/A certificates. There were ladies on the committee watching the film; they didn't feel offended by any shot that was vulgar or cheap. So that was my litmus test."

Speaking of Savi, besides Divya Khossla, it also stars Harshvardhan Rane and Anil Kapoor in the lead.
