Amitabh Bachchan is one of the finest dressed celebrities in the industry and has always managed to leave the fans swooning with his style statements. From joggers to suits to sherwanis, there’s nothing Amitabh Bachchan can’t carry with utmost swag and the fashion enthusiasts surely look forward to his three-piece suits for Kaun Banega Crorepati 12. His stylist for the show, Priya Patil, got into an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama and spoke in detail about the process of styling Amitabh Bachchan’s looks for the famous show. She has been a part of his team for a few years and spoke about how (amazing) it is to work for the legendary actor.
Speaking of the first time that she was offered to work with him, Priya Patil said, “The minute you hear its Mr. Amitabh Bachchan that you’re going to work with, your first reaction is ‘Is this all real?’. I have seen him on the screen for so many years and when you meet him, he’s larger than life. So, when you meet him face-to-face, it’s an overwhelming feeling.” Priya further elaborated on the best parts about working with him. She said, “Just to see that he is so dedicated to work, the way he carries himself on the floor as well, like when the show begins, you can actually see all the experiences he has had over the years in his career and he’s so dedicated towards his work has got to be one of the best parts about working with him.”
Coming to his styling, Priya Patil explained the whole process of following the theme of the show and explained the details. “It’s a family show and an evening show, so we have been following the three-piece suits for the past three years. They have worked really well on the show so we continue with those this year as well along with the ‘band galas’. I go with deep colours since he likes the classic look a lot so I have to consider that as well. So the blacks with a lighter shade or the whites with the purples; keeping all the deep colours so that is the combination that we’re going with. In terms of the silhouettes, I always keep them the same. The band galas, bell-covers and high collars. Every year, I introduce some or the other type of new accessories, the last year it was various types of ties and this year I’m going with broches and collar pins as the new add-ons.”
Priya Patil also spoke about Amitabh Bachchan’s involvement in the styling process, she said, “Every year before the show begins, there’s a generic style guide that is presented along with the introduction of what we’re doing this season, that I show to him. So the channel and the production is on the same page. But he’s very comfortable and very open to new trends and styles, so it’s great working with somebody like that.” For the unversed, all of Amitabh Bachchan’s clothing material is imported internationally, giving us an insight on the same, Priya said, “On-screen, there are certain fabrics that look really nice, formal, and it’s more about the fall of it, the softness and the feel that it has. So, as long as the fabrics look great and feel comfortable, those are the ones that I’m always keen on using. Like, certain colours translate well but when shown on screen, it might be too loud or it might go too flat as well, so things like these have to be kept in mind before finalizing on a material.”
While it is very difficult to manage three-piece suits as per the theme and keep it versatile at the same time, Priya ensures to play around within the limits of the guidelines. She said, “It’s one of the reasons why we opted for band galas. Deep colours like black, blues, and whites tend to get a little difficult to not be repeated so we play around with the accessories. There’s still a standard to be maintained to keep it sleek and trendy.” Speaking of Amitabh Bachchan being a fashion inspiration, she said, “The outfit might look average on the stand but the minute he puts it on, it’s switched to looking spectacular. So, that is a dream come true.”
