In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Madhuri Dixit revisited the charm of the ’80s and ’90s — decades many actors today wish they had experienced. She explained why the era remains iconic and continues to resonate across generations.

A Golden Era: Madhuri on the Magic of the ’80s and ’90s
“The thing was like, film was the only go to entertainment and people used to find us relatable, they used to connect with the characters we played, and music, the songs, the dances, they were so beautiful. People still remember most of the songs and people still dance to it, their kids are dancing the kid's kids are dancing to it. So, it's amazing, and it's a golden era I would say, and it continues in a different way.”
Her words capture the enduring emotional connection audiences still feel toward films, songs, and characters from that time.
The New Age of Entertainment: OTT, Social Media and More
Reflecting on how the industry has transformed, Madhuri highlighted the massive shift in how people consume entertainment today. “Now it's become a different thing; there is OTT and there is the cinema, YouTube, there is Insta. There is so much happening, also twitter, so there are so many different ways you get entertainment.”
The evolution from a single dominant medium — cinema — to a multi-platform digital world has opened new avenues for actors, creators, and audiences alike.
On “Age-Appropriate” Roles and Protecting One’s Legacy
Madhuri was also asked whether she feels pressured to maintain a certain image or ensure her legacy remains “untouched,” especially as conversations about age-appropriate roles continue to surface.
“Well, the legacy is when you go out there put yourself out there and you try something different, then u create a legacy, because of that work you did. Then it paves the path for others to follow. And if you don't take that chance, it's never going to happen.” She stressed that a true legacy is built not by playing safe but by taking bold creative risks.
The actress further explained why challenging herself is essential to her growth and longevity in the industry.
“So, I feel it's not about age appropriate or it's not about anything. It's about taking up the challenges and making it happen. And that's how a legacy is created, you can't be scared of failure. If tomorrow I thought, ‘Oh my god, how will I do this Mrs. Deshpande? What if I fail? What if people don't like it? Then what if you'll never do anything. So, I think you have to be out there and just take the chances and try and make it happen. Do your best.”
Her approach reflects the mindset of someone who has not only shaped cinema but continues to redefine her journey with courage and authenticity.
A Star Who Continues to Inspire
As Madhuri prepares for the release of Mrs. Deshpande, she stands as a reminder that reinvention, fearlessness, and passion are key to staying relevant and respected. Whether in films or on OTT, she remains an artist who leads by example — breaking norms and setting new benchmarks with every role.
