EXCLUSIVE: “Let’s hope Gadar 2 and OMG 2 clash brings good news for film industry,” says Taran Adarsh

Taran Adarsh also confirmed that the handpump scene will be a part of Gadar 2 as well.

All eyes are set on the Independence Day period as the Sunny Deol starrer Gadar 2 and Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 are set to clash at the box office on August 11. Speaking about the same, veteran film trade analyst Taran Adarsh in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama said, “It is definitely going to clash. This is what it seems. The censors (CBFC) have also seen. I feel Gadar 2’s opening would be phenomenal, especially in the Hindi belt.”

Adarsh went down memory lane to 2001 when Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, the first film, had released with another biggie Lagaan. “People inside and outside the film industry were concentrating more on Lagaan because of Ashutosh Gowariker and Aamir Khan,” he said. “For Gadar, people thought this might be an old school film and it will be a masala film. But the kind of business Gadar did you can’t even imagine. It was ahead of Lagaan by leaps and bounds. Plus, the film still has recall value. It is because of quite a few scenes and the song ‘Udja Kaale Kava’.”

Gadar is known for the famous handpump scene. The trailer of Gadar 2 indicated another handpump scene in the film. Speaking on the same, Adarsh added, “It (Gadar’s popularity) is also because of the handpump scene, which will be seen in the second part also. This film also has an important handpump scene, which will come in the second half. It’s a very interesting film.”

Sharing on what can one expect from Gadar 2, Adarsh said, “It takes the story forward in a very different way. It has been 20 years since the first Gadar came. The age (of the characters) increases, and the story needs to be portrayed in that way (in terms of the era). This is set in the 1970s. Let’s see. Fingers crossed. I am very sure that this film is going to take a fantastic opening.”

Adarsh is hoping that the clash between Gadar 2 and OMG 2 brings fruitful results for everyone. “They are releasing on August 11 and August 15 is a very big holiday, when the business is at an all-time high. Let’s hope that the clash brings good news for the two films and the film industry. It’s very important for the health of the industry,” he said.

When asked what if both the films don’t take a good opening, Adarsh said, “I hope something of that sort doesn’t happen. I am very sure it (both films) will take a good opening, unless something goes drastically wrong.”
