Bollywood actress Konkana Sen Sharma has got associated with P&G Shiksha. P&G Shiksha has been working to remediate learning gaps over many years to build conceptual understanding in children. The learning gaps manifest in form of seemingly naïve responses by children.
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Konkana Sen Sharma shared her thoughts related to her association with P&G Shiksha and said, “I feel very proud actually to be here today. P&G Shiksha is something that I have been associated with even earlier. Several years earlier, we did the similar kind of an event. But I'm so pleased to know how Shiksha has evolved over these years. To begin with, they were more into building schools, and infrastructure, but I think according to the changing needs of children, and students and education, they have also changed their goal. And today, they are, focused on bridging the edge of the learning gap. That is education. So, the children who don't have the kind of support or who are not receiving the kind of quality education they are really focusing on it. I think that is really crucial for societal development. And that is I'm very pleased to be associated with P&G Shiksha today.”
Explaining about her aim with P&G Shiksha, she said, “The most important thing I think is raising awareness that there is a learning gap. By learning gap, I think what is meant is that what a child is supposed to be doing in class by the level of education that is to reach a class by many times in reality. It has been seen that the level of education is more like class two, or class three that your children are not learning equally.”
“And many times there are also memes, in which, we find children cute or, part of them or it's used for entertainment. But it's actually not such a funny thing. It’s definitely not funny for that particular child who may be facing some humiliation or some bullying, or, it's not funny for the family who's dealing with this problem. And this is quite common, and it happens to you know, and I would say many classrooms in the better schools. It's not really about the school itself, it's just that in a class of 30-40 children not everyone is being educated in the same way. Not everybody is able to meet the teachers requirements at the same level, not everybody's coming from the similar kind of a background, not all families are complete and harmonious. So, there are challenges that children are facing which are not always being able to be met by the schools and that's where P&G Shiksha, I think, comes in to bridge this gap,” she added.
