It has been a remarkable 10^th year for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which starred Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor in iconic roles. The movie not only left an indelible mark on Indian cinema but also introduced Kalki Koechlin to the world of mainstream Bollywood with her breakout role as Aditi. However, Kalki has revealed that she had faced scepticism when considering signing the project, which featured two of Bollywood's biggest stars.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama Kalki said, “I was told by quite a few people (not to do Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani). Because it was early in my career, and it's all about strategizing. People told me, ‘You’d be drowning in this film.' There are two main big actors, so your part would probably be edited out. They had those thoughts and doubts.”

Kalki's perspective shifted when she had a chance to converse with Ayan Mukerji, the film's director. She said, “The way he spoke about Aditi (her character), he started telling me childhood stories about how Aditi, Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor), and Avi (Aditya Roy Kapur) used to hang out. He had the whole thing in his head. I knew Aditi was a character that would light up the screen. She was boisterous and exciting. I knew it was a good character after meeting him.”

In Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Kalki portrayed Aditi, a pivotal member of the quartet of friends, which also included Bunny, Avi, and the newcomer Naina, portrayed by Deepika Padukone. The narrative takes the audience on a journey to Manali, weaving together their shared experiences. Aditi's unrequited affection for Avi, which transforms over the years, ultimately leads her to marry another member of the group, played by Kunaal Roy Kapur. A decade later, the film's legacy remains intact, cherished not only for its star-studded performances but also for its portrayal of friendships, emotions, and the evolution of its characters over time.
