EXCLUSIVE: Himanshu Malik’s next directorial venture is called Parrot; reveals that his role in Ulajh was majorly chopped off

en Bollywood News EXCLUSIVE: Himanshu Malik’s next directorial venture is called Parrot; reveals that his role in Ulajh was majorly chopped off

Earlier this year, the espionage thriller Ulajh was released in cinemas. It grabbed eyeballs due to its star cast, comprising Janhvi Kapoor, Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Adil Hussain, Meiyang Chang, Rajesh Tailang and others. A name that stood out was that of Himanshu Malik, of Tum Bin (2001) and Khwahish (2003) fame. He played terrorist Yaseen Mirza and one of the opening scenes involves this character and his dramatic arrest. He's then seen in one more scene after which his character never appears again. It gave many viewers a feeling that his part was cut from the film.

Last month, Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Himanshu Malik about the re-release of Tum Bin. Towards the end, when we asked about Ulajh, he admitted, “There were lots I shot which were removed. In fact, one integral part of the plot was cut! My character was the one who facilitated the escape of a most wanted gangster after the blast with the help of a police person. Hence, the police chief in India did not want him to come back to India; or else, my character might have revealed that I worked in tandem with him. That was the main game. But they just turned the plot.”

When asked if he was informed about his role being cut, Himanshu replied, “No. I learned about it when I saw the final cut. It’s okay. These things happen.”

In 2022, Himanshu Malik turned director with the slice-of-life film, Chitrakut (2022). After premiering on Jio Cinema in May 2023, it got a new lease of life. Starring Vibhore Mayank, Aurtira Ghosh, Naina Trivedi, Kiran Srinivas and Shruti Bapna, the film is a refreshing take on love and relationships and makes for a breezy watch. There are times when one anticipates that the film will become dark but it doesn’t. And that adds to its appeal.

We asked Himanshu Malik about his next directorial venture. He replied, “I am directing a film called Parrot. It goes on floors in March 2025. I am finalizing the cast right now. Besides, I am also acting in Baby Do Die Do, produced by Huma Qureshi. It also stars Huma along with Sikandar Kher and Chunky Panday.

Himanshu Malik now looks quite different from his Tum Bin and Khwahish days, especially after shaving his head. The actor signed off by saying that his new avatar is proving to be of an advantage, “I am getting a lot of offers from down South thanks to my new look.”
