EXCLUSIVE: Fatima Sana Shaikh on Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency teaser, “It’s beautiful, I am very excited” : Bollywood News

Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur recently started streaming on ZEE5. The movie sees Vicky Kaushal play the titular role of India’s first Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw while Fatima Sana Shaikh portrays the character of India’s former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The character of the latter has been explored quite a few times in recent years in Bollywood films. Later this year, Kangana Ranaut will also be seen playing Indira Gandhi in her film Emergency.

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Fatima said that she didn’t think about other actors’ portrayal of Gandhi while playing that character in Sam Bahadur. “I don’t think that way because in a film like Sam Bahadur, the director’s vision is very clear,” she said. “Here, I am not putting my own opinion. As an actor, I am coming on board and trying to do justice to my director’s vision. And my director was very clear of what she wanted and how much she wanted from me. So, I cannot compare. The name of our film is Sam Bahadur. It’s not Indira Gandhi or even Emergency.”

Speaking about the announcement teaser of Emergency, Fatima added, “I am sure and I am very excited to (see the film) because the teaser was beautiful, stunning. So, I am actually excited because definitely they are going to dig deep into her (Gandhi’s) life and who she was, what her personality and journey was. So the story itself is different. It is based on a different character. Over here, it was on a different character. We were talking about Sam Bahadur and we only had to show how other characters like Indira Gandhi and others impacted him. The film is about Sam Bahadur, so then there is only so much that you are going to explore.”

Fatima has a line-up of films for 2024, including Anurag Basu’s Metro… In Dino.
