Eijaz Khan, who is currently playing the role of undercover agent Ravi Verma in the SONY LIV web-series Adrishyam, couldn’t be happier about success coming his way. From City of Dreams to Jawan to this show, exploring his versatility, Eijaz, in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, explained how he is enjoying his best phase of his life and the kind of responses he has been receiving for his latest show, which also marks his first collaboration with popular actress Divyanka Tripathi.
Eijaz Khan admitted that he did not expect his web-series to receive so much love and expressed his surprise to Bollywood Hungama saying, “Since the show has come out, it's always been in the top five and top three and I'm so grateful for it. But it is also so surprising (because at that time) we had big budget shows come out. I mean, our budgets are a fraction of their episodes budget, and we're still there. I think, besides all the hard work, all the duas and all the good intentions, whenever we create something, there is some universal spirituality attached to it, and that makes it successful. (It’s like) We always say every film has its own Naseeb (destiny), like this, this has its own naseeb. Things had to fall into place at that particular time in my life, in our lives, everyone wanted to do something better. Everyone wanted to put their best foot forward. Everyone wanted to make something not only to make money, but to make something good. And I think, to a certain extent, we have done that. Everywhere I go, for every meeting, they start talking about Adrishyam first.”
Despite the fact that Eijaz and Divyanka Tripathi have worked in television industry for so many reasons, this is the first time he collaborated with her. Sharing the experience, Eijaz revealed, “Divyanka came in with a lot of fresh ideas along with a very unique perspective to her role. But most of the time, when she was shooting her scene, I'm not involved in that. We are only involved as comrades, working together. And that shows in the whole rainbow colors of the show.”
However, he did add that the camaraderie of their characters Ravi Verma and Parvati Segal are much deeper than it is portrayed on a surface level. “(Their relation with each other) shows a very softer, very understanding a very different part of Ravi Varma and Parvati Saigal, these two people in the show, when they are with each other, we are the most honest they can be emotionally naked with each other. That's. Something we wanted to explore in our field. We wanted Ravi Varma and Parvati Segal to be their real self. Otherwise, Parvati is trying to be this good mother at home. Parvati is trying to be this good agent at work. Ravi is trying to be a good husband at home and this good agent. But you know, they are always trying. They are not being themselves. You know, only in front of each other can they be their real self.”
He continued, “(They are like that) especially because of the nature of their work. They can't be very open about talking to anyone, because it concerns the national issues, intelligence issues, and at work, they cannot talk about their personal challenges only with themselves. They can open up completely. They can honestly have a conversation, and they can actually see what's in their heart and trust each other to understand each other. Otherwise, this is something that we always explore. This something we always spoke about before the scenes, and I think it's come out very nice, and with every passing episode, it's flourishing even more.”
Adrishyam streams on SONY LIV and revolves around the lives of undercover agents who attempt to balance their work pressure and the day-to-day life domestic issues amid their race against time to protect the nation from unforeseen attacks and contingencies.
