Actor Divyenndu Sharma opened up about stepping into the world of Saali Mohabbat, where he plays the complex and emotionally driven character of Ratan. Known for choosing roles with depth, Divyenndu revealed what instantly drew him toward this layered character set against a backdrop of ambition, struggle, and moral conflict.
In a candid chat with Bollywood Hungama, sharing insights into his role, Divyenndu said, “I play a character called Ratan, who is a police officer. He’s someone who really wants to grow in life — someone who wants to break free from the setup he lives in. He has high expectations for himself, for his life, and for how he wants to live. His mother also really wants him to succeed, and somewhere, he is an opportunist. But you’ll see that side of him only as the story unfolds with its twists and turns.”
He added that what fascinated him most was Ratan’s emotional realism. “What I found interesting about this guy is that he’s very human. We all know that feeling — when you believe you can do much more but people don’t recognize your potential, and you’re not finding the right opportunity. That’s how I understood Ratan. He’s a go-getter. That’s the best way to sum him up.”
Talking about the internal conflict the character navigates, Divyenndu explained, “Relating to a character like Ratan wasn’t easy, but like I said, he’s a very human guy who wants to get things done without harming anyone. He’s very clear that he will do whatever serves his purpose as long as he doesn’t hurt anyone. That’s the line he draws for himself and never wants to cross. We all deal with emotions like greed, love, and survival in everyday life. So yes, playing Ratan was a tightrope walk because he becomes a grey character, but he’s also searching for the truth. His sense of duty is very strong. And in that search for truth, if he can gain something for himself along the way, he doesn’t mind. That’s who he is.”
The actor also praised filmmaker Tisca Chopra, who makes her directorial debut with the project. Recalling his experience on set, Divyenndu shared, “Being directed by Tisca was fun. I’ve worked with a lot of first-time directors, and they have this lovely nervous energy, which is a great sign because it shows how much the work matters to them. What I really liked about Tisca was her openness to suggestions. She was very receptive and collaborative rather than simply dictating what she wanted. She brings great energy to the set, and I really enjoyed working with her.”
He further highlighted how her acting background brought clarity and comfort during the shoot. “Her being an actor definitely helped there are a lot of unsaid things you don’t need to explain because she already understands them. It made my job and my life much easier.”
With Divyenndu Sharma leading the narrative and Tisca Chopra steering the vision, Saali Mohabbat promises an authentic and emotionally compelling journey.
