In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Bhumi Pednekar spoke candidly about the emotional and psychological upheaval she experienced while playing the lead in the gritty crime thriller series Daldal. Known for expressive, emotionally charged performances, Bhumi admits that this role demanded the exact opposite restraint, silence and internalised turmoil.

“She has so much restraint. She’s stoic. She’s not physically expressive or verbose,” Bhumi explained. “As an actor, I’m used to material where emotions are heightened. Here, I felt very, very disabled on set.”
The discomfort wasn’t fleeting. Ten days into the shoot, self-doubt crept in. “I remember thinking, ‘I just can’t do this right.’ I kept telling Amrit that I didn’t know what to do.” She also admitted to feeling envious of other characters. “They were so well-written and interesting. As an actor, you want to do more, express more.”
What changed everything was a simple but profound insight from writer Amrit Raj Gupta. “He told me, if you feel you don’t know what to do and don’t want to do anything, that’s real.” That reframed the character completely.
As Daldal unfolds, that stillness becomes its most unsettling weapon. Bhumi’s performance proves that sometimes the loudest emotions are the ones never spoken and that courage in acting often lies in doing less, not more.
