One of the most intriguing aspects of Maddock Films’ Thamma is its character-driven storytelling within a supernatural setting. Bollywood’s most unconventional stars, Ayushmann Khurrana and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, take on complex roles that promise to redefine Bollywood’s approach to genre films. In their conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the actors provided a revealing look into the motivations and journeys of their characters, Alok Goyal and Yaksha.

Ayushmann as Alok Goyal: The Rational Adventurer
For the first time, Ayushmann shared detailed insights into his character, Alok Goyal, “My name is Alok Goyal. I’m the only son of a Baniya family and I’m a journalist. I have a great interest in ghosts and spirits. Supernatural things – knowing about them is my big passion.” Despite his obsession with the supernatural, Alok views most phenomena with skepticism, “I was very interested, but I also knew it doesn’t happen. But now it’s happening to me myself. When that transition happens, you don’t understand what to do.”
Ayushmann paints Alok as an everyman whose rational world is upended by the very mysteries he thought he could explain away. The tension between belief and reality becomes a core dramatic thread, making Alok’s internal transformation as important as any external horror.
Nawazuddin As Yaksha: The Face of Mystery
Nawazuddin, meanwhile, continues his tradition of enigmatic roles with Yaksha. Though details are sparse, the intrigue is deliberate, “My character’s name is Yaksha.” He skilfully dodges every invitation to spill more, building anticipation for a performance that, judging by social media buzz, could be one of the most memorable antagonists Maddock’s universe has seen.
