EXCLUSIVE: “Anurag Kashyap taught me the real job of a producer,” reveals Lust Stories 2 producer Ashi Dua : Bollywood News

Ashi Dua became a producer at a very young age of 24. She is known for helming some acclaimed projects like Bombay Talkies, Kaalakaandi, Lust Stories, Ghost Stories, among others under her banner Flying Unicorn Entertainment. But there was a time when she was new in Mumbai and wanted to try her hand in films. At that time, she decided to attend a script writing workshop by Anurag Kashyap and that became a major turn in her journey.

Sharing how the workshop helped her, Ashi Dua told Bollywood Hungama exclusively, “I was completely blown away when I met Anurag. Even though he had not too many films, he was such a popular writer and he had made Black Friday, which, at that time, was banned. I was so excited to just be in the same room and understand how a mind like that works.”

Kashyap also helped Ashi break the myth that one only needs money to become a film producer. “Anurag opened my eyes,” she said. “From where we come, (we feel) to be a producer, you need to have a lot of money. But the actual job of a producer is putting the whole project together and that is what I learnt from Anurag. I learnt that you really don’t need money (to become a producer). Money is going to be given to you by a studio or a financier. Producers’ real job and the understanding of that job was taught to me by Anurag.”

She added, “I am forever grateful to him. Only when I realized and learnt that that I thought I could be a producer one day.”

Ashi’s fruitful workshop with Kashyap also ensured that she got to assist the latter for his iconic film Dev D. “Dev D was a great experience,” she said. “It was Amit Trivedi and Kalki’s (Koechlin) first film. So many things I learnt during my brief time over there. That is when Anurag made me realize that you could be a good producer one day. Learning from every direction is what really helped on a film like Dev D.”

Interestingly, a few years after assisting Anurag Kashyap on Dev D, Ashi Dua produced the anthology Bombay Talkies where the former was a director of one of the short stories on it.
