EXCLUSIVE: “Anurag Kashyap is a very aware director,” says Abhilash Thapliyal; shares his experience of working with him in Kennedy : Bollywood News

Though Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat and Dobaaraa underperformed at the box office, Anurag Kahsyap’s upcoming directorial Kennedy has created a buzz. In fact, it has been picked for the Cannes Film Festival this year. Ahead of its premiere at the prestigious film festival, actor Abhilash Thapliyal, who has played a pivotal role in Kennedy, shared his experience of working with Anurag. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Abhilash stated that with Anurag Kashyap, the audience can only expect magic.

Since the details of the film’s story are still under wraps, we asked Abhilash to shed some light on it. Though he politely refused to share the details, he went on to speak about his experience. He asserted, “He is a magician. Anurag Kashyap is someone who can represent Indian cinema. Kennedy is the only Indian film in Cannes this year. He is a very aware director. He brings out the story as he wants to tell it. He has given the power to the common man to tell their story. Before Gangs of Wasseypur, we never watched that kind of cinema. Every cast member of GOW is a star today.”

He further added, “As an actor, when you have to work with him, you think about fifty things. You can easily surrender yourself to him. He takes good care of his actors. He is a cute teddy bear. He is a very transparent person, and that’s why he is a phenomenal director.”

Recalling how Anurag approached him for Kennedy, Abhilash said, “During the shoot of Blurr, he had called me and spoken about Kennedy. He told me that he wants me to do this project. That call, I can say, 99% of the actors wait for that call. After working with Anurag Kashyap, now I know how magic is made. On his set, you get the creative freedom. After working with him, I look for him in every director.”
