Actor Bobby Deol is garnering praise for his performance in Animal, helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. He plays the antagonist in the role. Though the film has received polarizing reviews, it continues to smash box office records and garners praises for its performances. While fans have complained about the limited screen time of Deol, he considered this as a great opportunity to perform on the big screen.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he spoke about his family’s reaction to the film. Talking about his father Dharmendra’s Instagram post after Animal release, Bobby Deol said, “He's my father and he adores me. He's seen my struggle. He knows me inside out and he knows what I'm capable of. He's always been honest to me, when I had been in this industry for 28 years. But now he tells me ‘Tu kuch bhi kar sakta hai. Tere mein woh baat aa gayi hai. Tu pehle khud ko rok ke rakhta tha. And I'm so proud that you really work so hard.’ So I guess, for any father is a proud moment when they see the struggles of their children. God has been kind. We live together; we had a joint family and I guess we are just very emotional people. So my dad just had to put it. I remember when the first promo came out, somewhere I didn't even know him on Twitter, which is called x now, he put ‘my innocent son’. He's always played positive characters and protagonists, but I've been doing a lot of antagonists. I am of the belief that I need to do something different.”

In the same interview, Bobby Deol talked about the gore and bloodshed in the movie and that his brother Sunny Deol and Dharmendra are yet to watch the film. “My dad and my brother haven’t seen it, but everybody else has. They’re feeling exactly like the audience is reacting to me. They’re naturally biased, but they’ve always believed in me as an actor and they were waiting for the right film to come my way,” he said.

When asked how his wife Tania Deol and his sons Aryaman and Dharam reacted to his antagonist role, he said, “My kids and my wife, I can only see happiness in their eyes. This is the first time I’ve noticed how I affect them as a father. With them, if I was happy I’d be happy, if I was sad I’d be sad, if I was angry I’d be angry… They think I’ve always deserved it, and they’ve seen my failures, and now they’re seeing my success.”
