EXCLUSIVE: Animal actress Charu Shankar on acting in films, “I am here entirely by accident” : Bollywood News

Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal has become one of the all-time blockbusters. Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, the film also boasts of a list of supporting actors. One of them is Charu Shankar, who played Ranbir’s mom in the film and is receiving a lot of acclaim for the same.

In an exclusive video interview with Bollywood Hungama, Charu revealed that she, surprisingly, never intended to do films and it happened all by accident. She said, “It wasn’t in the list at all. I am here entirely by accident. I never planned to be a film actress. I never thought of myself in that way ever. I always was sure that I wanted to be a part of the creative industry. I used to perform drama, dance and music in school and more in college because all this happens a lot in Delhi University. So, nobody was surprised when I went pro with it. But films were actually just never something that I had in my mind. I was always very interested in theatre, broadways and that kind of stuff. Films just happened.”

Revealing how it all happened, Charu added, “In 2007 Wes Anderson was in India. He was making a film called The Darjeeling Limited. I got a call saying if I can send some photographs. But I didn’t even have my photographs at that time. There were no phones (with cameras). I got some friend or someone to click a few pictures. They reached him and he said, ‘Yeah, let’s get her.’” Exclaiming how big that was for him, she added, “Wes Anderson, right?”

Sharing her experience during The Darjeeling Limited, Charu added, “I was in a scene with Owen Wilson, Adrian Bordy and Wes Anderson was directing. That scene is the last scene of this film. So, my name went into the cast and that’s really how I came into this industry. Just entirely by accident. I had no idea about anything.”

Produced by T-Series, Cine1 Studios and Bhadrakali Productions, Animal has gone onto earn over Rs. 500 crores at the India box office.
