From doing Marathi cinema to television to Bollywood to OTT, there is hardly anything that Amruta Khanvilkar hasn’t been a part of. But if there was one longing in her heart, it was to do Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Interestingly this is not even her first dance reality show. She has already been a part of Nach Baliye with her husband Himanshu Malhotra and she even won the trophy that year. The actress has now returned to what she loves the most – dancing. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, she spoke about her reason for participating in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
Talking to Bollywood Hungama about being a part of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Amruta Khavilkar said, “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa karna is a very emotional decision for me this year because of the one and only OG Chandramukhi that is Madhuri Dixit. I've been her fan or follower. Right from dancing to her songs to copying her hairstyle, to wearing the saris that she wears and everything about Madhuri Dixit excites me. I'm very glad that I'll be doing Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa this season.”
Adding further about her love for dancing, she shared, “Dance for me is something that makes me breathe. I don't even remember main kab se naach rahi hoon (since when I started dancing). I think I was four years jab se main dance kar rahi hoon (I think I have been dancing since I was 4) and I'm still dancing and touchwood by God's grace, I'll still be dancing.”
Revealing her experience with the art, Amruta added, “I'm not a trained dancer. But yes, professionally I have done a lot of shows and reality shows. I do a lot of Broadway shows too. So, if you see, I have danced professionally.”
“Yes, I'm very, very nervous to perform in front of both of these fabulous women. Firstly, because Madhuri Dixitji is going to see how much your facial expressions are impressing her. Nora Fatehi is all about giving it all out when it comes to dancing with your body. So I think inn dono ka combination rakhke jo hai mujhe apne performances choreograph karne padenge (I will have to choreograph keep this combination in mind),” she asserted.
Amruta Khanvilkar also revealed that her first performance on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa is on a Nora Fatehi song. The actress performed on the popular peppy track ‘Garmi Garmi’ from the film Street Dancer. Talking about her dream actress Madhuri Dixit, Amruta mentioned that she would like to perform on ‘Kahe Chedh Mohey’ from Devdas, and when it comes to Karan Johar, she would opt for the song from their film Raazi, that is, ‘Dilbaro’. For the uninitiated, Amruta played a pivotal role in the Alia Bhatt starrer.
She also spoke about her bond with her choreographer wherein Amruta maintained that she already knew Pratik Utekar. Obviously, their comfort level was high because they knew each other. “The ice was already broken because I knew him. We've danced together and my only thing is I wanted somebody who's hatta-khatta, who could lift me and everything. And I found this really tiny, thin guy. Toh ab aise ho gaya,” she concluded.
