Ahead of the release of her upcoming film Gadar 2, Ameesha Patel spoke to Bollywood Hungama about her experiences in the film industry. She said that she believes that honesty is not welcome in Bollywood and that her “public relationships” have taken a “beating on her career.”

"All I can say is that in this industry, honesty is not welcome," Patel said. "And I'm too honest. For me, life is black and white. And I am someone who wears my heart on my sleeve. I don't think, and that has been the biggest drawback for me in my life."

Patel asserted that she has been in two public relationships and that both of them have had a negative impact on her career. "The relationships, the two that were public, the only two I ever had, because I was never involved with anyone else, they did take a beating on my career," she said. "And then for 12-13 years, I was like, no men all peace."

Patel said that she believes that the single status of a girl is always more attractive to the people working in the industry and to the audiences. "It's always more attractive for your audiences and they feel that if you're single, or if you're only dating someone from the film industry like a superstar or hero, it benefits your career," she said. "Otherwise, they don't accept it. See a heroine dating a hero can still do films with the hero and continue getting the work. For me, that was not the case."

Patel said that she has learned from her experiences and is okay with the way things have turned out. "So you know it does take the beating but you learn from it. So it's okay," she said.
