In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ameesha Patel said that she grew up in a political family. Patel, who is not from a filmy background, said that her grandfather, Barrister Rajni Patel, was the right hand of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
"I was a common person in the fact that I didn't belong to a filmy family. But I belong to a political family that was very much in the public eye and maybe more so than a full family, you know, with my grandfather, actually, Barrister Rajni Patel, who was the right hand of Mrs Indira Gandhi, and who was the first person to visit me in the hospital when I was born," Patel said.
Patel said that she grew up surrounded by influential people, including artist MF Hussain and politicians Praful Patel and Rajiv Shukla. She said that her grandparents' home was a regular meeting place for some of the most powerful people in India such as Dhirubhai Ambani and Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani.
"So I lived a very high profile life away from the media of films, but extremely high profile in the kind of people that I interacted with growing up and I think they were highly educated. They were highly self-made, like, for instance, Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru, my own grandfather and we believed in education, my grandmother was even more educated than I was," Patel said.
Coming to the professional front, Patel is currently gearing up for the release of Gadar 2, the sequel to her 2001 film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. The film, directed by Anil Sharma, is set to release on August 11, 2023.
