Around two decades ago, there was a time when Akshay Kumar gave a series of flops, and his career did not look very bright. During such a phase, it was Suneel Darshan’s Jaanwar that broke the bad spell for him in 1999. Hence, the film, which also starred Karisma Kapoor and Shilpa Shetty, became very special for him. Naturally, Akshay was keen on working with the same filmmaker again.

But an act by the filmmaker made Akshay insecure. During an exclusive video interview with Bollywood Hungama, Suneel Darshan shared, “I was invited then by a very big producer whose son’s movie was about to release and he invited me to watch the rushes. I went and watched it. Akshay got to know that I had gone to this guy’s office.”

After learning about Suneel Darshan’s meeting with that producer, Akshay started feeling that the former wouldn’t sign him for his next film. The filmmaker added, “He (Akshay) asked me, ‘Are you actually not signing me for your next movie?’ I was a bit surprised. Some people bitching around must have gone and communicated something of that sort (with Akshay). I said, no I don’t think I have (said it). I never intended to do that. I hadn’t even decided what was my next step (movie).”

Akshay then visited Suneel Darshan’s office and said something that stunned the filmmaker after knowing the kind of respect the actor had for him. The filmmaker continued, “He said, ‘You can make me sign an agreement that I will do 100 movies with you; I am damn committed to you.’”

Finally, Akshay did become a pivotal part of Suneel Darshan’s next, Ek Rishtaa: The Bond Of Love, which also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Karisma Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and Mohnish Behl.
