After rewriting records at the Gujarati box office, Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate is now preparing for its nationwide Hindi theatrical release on January 9, 2026. The film, which became the first Gujarati movie to cross the Rs 100-crores mark, arrives in Hindi backed by extraordinary word-of-mouth and an unusual creative process rooted deeply in audience feedback.
Directed by Ankit Sakhiya and presented by Manifest Films, Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate is produced by Ajay Padariya and Jay Vyas and stars Karan Joshi, Shruhad Goswami, and Reeva Rachh in pivotal roles. The film follows the journey of Laalo, a humble rickshaw driver burdened by his past, whose life takes an unexpected turn when faith enters his darkest moments. Grounded in realism yet spiritual at its core, the narrative explores belief, redemption, and inner awakening through the lens of an ordinary man.
What sets Laalo apart, however, is not just its box-office feat but the way the film was shaped long before its theatrical release. Director Ankit Sakhiya revealed that once the film was completed, the team spent nearly a year screening it for small groups of everyday viewers to understand how it truly connected with people.
“To be honest, while we were making the film, we felt it was good and that it would reach people in its own way,” Sakhiya shared. “We believed it had something different to offer, but we never imagined it would connect with so many people in such a short span of time.”
According to the filmmaker, the screenings involved groups of around 500 to 600 people at a time, with the team actively inviting honest feedback. “After the film was ready, we began showing it to small groups and asked them very honestly what they felt about it. We wanted to know what they liked, what they didn’t, and why,” he said.
The response, Sakhiya noted, was unexpectedly encouraging. “People kept telling us that it felt fresh, that they had never seen anything like this before, and that gave us confidence. This process continued for almost a year.”
The director added that the screenings were deliberately inclusive. “We showed the film to audiences from all walks of life — from watchmen and cyclists to senior professionals and business owners. Our idea was to understand who the film was really connecting with and who our audience was.”
It was during this phase that the team realised the film’s strongest pull lay with family audiences. “That’s when we realised something special was happening — the film was being embraced by entire families. Everyone, across age groups, was enjoying it together,” Sakhiya explained. “We knew then that if families came to the theatre, the experience would be truly special — something rare and unforgettable.”
Released in October 2025, Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate went on to create history in Gujarati cinema, driven largely by repeat viewings and organic word-of-mouth — a phenomenon seldom seen in regional films.
The film now steps into a wider national space with its Hindi release on January 9, 2026.
