Life seems to have come full circle for Esha Gupta and that too in quick time of two years flat. It was in 2012 when she had played a middle class doctor in her debut film Jannat 2. Now in Humshakals, she is playing a doctor again, though the set up happens to be the U.K. From wearing ‘salwar-kameez’ in the Emraan Hashmi starrer, she has gone to wearing mini-skirts and figure hugging tops in Sajid Khan’s Humshakals.
With the film turning out to be successful at the box office, it is now second biggie for Esha who also has a blockbuster Raaz 3 to her credit.
“Well, I have myself never seen such a glam doctor, so I am happy to play one and perhaps pave the way for others,” winks Esha, “I remember that during Jannat 2, (Mahesh) Bhatt saab and Kunal (Deshmukh) told me that since I was playing a middle class girl, I didn’t have to work out a lot or lose a lot of weight. Not that doctors are not thin but then they wanted me to look like a regular girl next door since Jannat 2 wasn’t a high on glamour film.”
With Humshakals, the tide has turned and she is happy to have got a good team working for her.
“If you have to look good as a Bollywood heroine, you need a very good team of a great stylist, make-up artist and hair dresser. These people work so hard and are always on their toes to give you the best. I just told my team to do their best and I would make sure not to let them down,” says Esha, “I must give credit to them for making it all happen. For the rest, I consulted Sajid and we were on the same page as far as my presentation is concerned. The results are showing on screen.”
In between, she also did Prakash Jha’s Chakravyuha where she was required to dress up in formal attire all through due to her characterization as a cop. Though ‘Dhat Teri Ki‘ [Gori Tere Pyaar Mein] marked her re-entry as a glam girl, Esha was being selective in her approach when it came to leading lady parts in films.
“I was waiting for the right film; I don’t want to do bad films just because I have to be constantly seen,” says Esha, “Humshakals was something different. Sajid has given hits to Deepika and so many other heroines. I also want a hit in my career and a commercial film like Humshakals promised that.”
Well, she can indeed afford to smile a lot more now!
