Emmys 2022: Zendaya becomes youngest two-time award winner as she accepts Outstanding Lead Actress for Euphoria – “Thank you to everyone who have shared their story with me”

Hollywood actress Zendaya created history by winning second Emmy award for lead actress in a drama series for her performance in Euphoria, becoming the youngest two-time Emmy winner in the leading acting categories.

“This means so much. Thank you so much,” Zendaya said on stage, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “To all the incredible actors in this category, I’m so honoured to be beside you. Thank you to the incredible, incredible cast. Thank you for making such a safe space to make this very difficult show. I love you all so much.” After thanking the TV Academy, her friends and family, she continued, “Thank you to Sam [Levinson] for sharing Rue with me. Thank you for believing in me, even in moments when I didn’t believe in myself. And then lastly, I just want to say, my greatest wish for Euphoria was that it helped heal people. And I just want to say thank you to everyone who have shared their story with me. I want you to know that anyone who has loved a Rue or feels like they are a Rue, I want you to know what I’m so grateful for your stories, and I carry them with me and I carry them with her. So, thank you so much.”

The Euphoria star became the youngest lead actress in a drama winner with her first win for Euphoria in 2020. Additionally, she also becomes the first Black woman to win the Emmy for lead actress in a drama series twice. In 2022 Emmys, Zendaya beat out fellow nominees Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Laura Linney (Ozark), Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets), Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) and Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show).

Euphoria bagged a total of 25 Emmy nominations since 2020, also winning this year in the categories of Drama Guest Actor (Domingo), Choreography for Scripted Programming, Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour), Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series and Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic).

In addition to Outstanding Drama Series, it was nominated for Drama Supporting Actress (Sweeney). Additional 2022 nominations came in the categories of Drama Guest Actress (Martha Kelly), Drama Series Casting, Music Supervision, Contemporary Costumes, Contemporary Hairstyling and Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour).
