Producer Ekta Kapoor continues to expand Balaji Telefilms’ footprint across industries, with 2025 marking a significant year in her career. As the banner completes 30 years in Indian entertainment, Kapoor has added several milestones to her portfolio, including her first National Award for Kathal, a new collaboration with Netflix, and the return of the television series Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi featuring Smriti Irani.
Among these developments, Balaji’s entry into Malayalam cinema with Vrusshabha stands out as a key expansion into a new regional market. The film marks the production house’s first Malayalam project and features veteran actor Mohanlal in a pivotal role.
Speaking about the collaboration, Ekta Kapoor reflected on her experience of working with Mohanlal and her admiration for Malayalam cinema. She said, “On this platform with so many great actors and above all a legend like Mohanlal sir. What a big honor for Balaji to step foot into the Malayalam film industry, with the man who is known as Lalitan, the most revered actor of our times, and when this project came to us, we thought it was a sign from God, and we finally got a chance to enter one of the most prolific content comes out of Malayalam cinema. The best content in India today is Malayalam content, and the one who has signified and who is synonymous with this content is Mohanlal sir. So, to be associated with him for our first Malayalam film, it's just Balaji who has blessed us. Thank you so much.”
Kapoor’s comments underline both the significance of the collaboration and the production house’s intent to engage more closely with regional storytelling. Malayalam cinema has increasingly gained national and international recognition for its content-driven approach, making Vrusshabha a notable addition to Balaji’s slate.
On the professional front, Ekta Kapoor continues to manage a wide range of projects across films, television, and digital platforms. Her upcoming work includes VVAN, a collaboration with The Viral Fever, and Bhooth Bangla, which reunites director Priyadarshan with actor Akshay Kumar. She has also recently launched Naagin 7, while several other film projects are currently at different stages of development.
