Cast: Kevin James, Salma Hayek, Henry Winkler and Bas Rutten
Director: Frank Coraci
Producer: Kevin James, Todd Garner
Here Comes The Boom is a feel-good entertainer that stars Kevin James as Eric Voss, an apathetic biology teacher in a high school who takes up Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) with a vengeance to raise funds for the school so that he can save the job of the old and loyal music teacher Marty (Henry Winkler).
The film starts of a bit slow but gathers steam from the moment Eric Voss begins his training for MMA at the hands of Niko (Bas Rutten), an immigrant who used to be a professional fighter during his younger days. Also helping him in the mission to raise funds for the school is Bella (Salma Hayek) who Voss has the hots for. Halfway into the film you know that the underdog will have his say in the end, yet you can’t help but root for Voss’ character.
Kevin James is hilarious as Voss delivering a knock-out punch. Henry Winkler is likeable and so is Bas Rutten who provides some genuinely funny moments. The love-angle between Kevin James and Salma Hayek has its moments but could have been dealt with in a better way. However the MMA fight sequences have been filmed really well.
