Divya Khossla speaks on method prep for Ek Chatur Naar: “They made me sweep, scrub, and clean” : Bollywood News

Divya Khossla is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Ek Chatur Naar, directed by Umesh Shukla. Ahead of the theatrical release on September 12, the actress opened up about her preparation process for the role, which required her to step out of her comfort zone.

Speaking on Archana Puran Singh’s vlog, Divya revealed that she had no prior knowledge of the dialect spoken in Uttar Pradesh but worked on it consistently to suit her character. “I didn’t know the UP language, but I learnt it and practised at home. Later, our director made me live in a slum for almost a week,” she shared.

The actress recalled how adapting to the environment was initially challenging. “There was a gutter right next to my jhopdi (hut). At first, the smell was unbearable, but after a few days, I got used to it,” she said.

Director Umesh Shukla also spoke about his methods to bring out natural reactions from his actors. “The naala scene that we made Divya do, we didn’t inform her about the location. We just took her there and made her stand there,” he explained. Remembering the experience, Divya added, “I was this close to falling in there. I was extremely scared. They made me do everything, including sweeping, scrubbing, and cleaning.”

In addition to living in the slum, Divya improvised one of her monologues, which Shukla described as “extremely popular.” She also studied influencer videos from Uttar Pradesh, interacted with staff members, and even picked up a few colloquial expressions and cuss words to add realism to her performance.

Ek Chatur Naar pairs Divya Khossla with Neil Nitin Mukesh for the first time. The film is positioned as a comedy-drama about a sharp-witted woman who constantly outsmarts those around her.
