The launch of 'FICCI-EY Media & Entertainment Report' was held at a five-star hotel in Mumbai and was attended by various reputed personalities of the media and entertainment industry. Blockbuster producer Dinesh Vijan attended an interesting panel discussion called ‘Box Office @ ₹20,000 Crore: Inside the Economics of Theatres in the Streaming Age’ wherein he spoke about the film industry, the current trends and a lot more.

Dinesh Vijan said, “Every 10-12 years, there's a shift that happens. The audience shifts in quality. World-class quality is an entry point now. If you look at the films that have worked, whether it's Stree or Chhaava or Animal or Dhurandhar, you realize that there hasn't been a film like them before. Every film that crossed the Rs. 500 crore mark were all risky films. There's a new India out there which is definitely not aspirational to the West. They want stories from their culture. Now they want those stories to be told at a scale that is true to that film. That doesn't mean that it only has to be the largest film. Saiyaara is what it is, but there hasn't been a film like Saiyaara since Aashiqui.”
He further said, “Also, I feel extreme emotion is in. When you are sitting in a movie theatre, we don't want anything subtle. You want someone to give you an electric wire and you want to feel really alive!”
Dinesh Vijan continued, “The shift has happened and sometimes, the makers are the last ones to accept it! If you look at the films that have landed, no one before the release thought that they would succeed so well. If you look at the Rs. 500 crore films, no one thought these films would get where they did. Of course, people expected Stree 2 to do so well, but that's because it's a franchise. But then look at the difference in collection between Stree Part 1 and Stree 2. It's 5x. That's because Amar Kaushik made a very good film and there was fandom. You cannot make a film less than Stree's first part if you want people to come and give you money in a theatre. I saw people lose their minds laughing while watching Stree 2. That’s extreme emotion.”
He further stated, “Chhaava makes you extremely emotional. At the end, people were howling in the theatre. Extreme emotion. Saiyaara delivered a love story that people had not seen in five years.”
