Dia Mirza attends the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) 6 : Bollywood News

On February 27, actor, producer, eco-investor, Goodwill Ambassador for UNEP and the UN Secretary General's Advocate for SDG, Dia Mirza was present at an afforestation engagement at Nairobi's urban lung space, Karura Forest. In this initiative to realise the dream of 500 million trees by 2032, Dia was also joined by Kenya's First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto and Inger Andersen who is Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme.

Dia says, "This tree plantation session at Karura, drove home the point that urban forests are critical for the health of our cities and their biodiversity must be protected for ecological stability. This forest contains indigenous upland forest tree species, species of bird and flora and fauna and thanks to conservation efforts, remains protected till date. To plant trees in this space was hugely symbolic as it reiterated Kenya's commitment to conserve and expand its green wealth. Any nation that wants to counter Climate Change, must invest in biodiversity. "

Dia reminds that global temperatures peaked at record-breaking levels in 2023. She adds, "As citizens of this planet, we cannot just stand by and watch as hundreds of thousands of species hurtle towards extinction and millions die each year due to pollution and climate change. UNEA-6 aims to accelerate multilateral action to address these issues with united, inclusive, and multilateral action. It is striving to repair humanity’s relationship with the natural world, foster sustainable development solutions and tackle the triple planetary crisis of climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste."
