Filmmaker Kunal Kohli recently shared his thoughts on the strong box office performance of Dhurandhar The Revenge, congratulating director Aditya Dhar, actor Ranveer Singh and Jio Studios for what he described as a landmark moment for Indian cinema.
Taking to Instagram, Kohli posted a video message reacting to the film’s theatrical run and its reported large-scale daily collections. He said, “Congratulations Aditya Dhar, Ranveer Singh, Jio Studios. You'll have collected Rs 100 crores plus a day twice. Dhurandhar of course, has gone on to become the biggest hit of Indian cinema, which is wonderful.”
Highlighting what he believes is the larger takeaway from the film’s performance, the director pointed to its implications for storytelling choices within the industry. “The important points that I'd like to highlight over here about this film and what it's done, it has shown us the true potential of the Indian box office. Phenomenal,” he said.
Kohli further stressed the importance of backing rooted narratives. “It has shown us that desi subjects and desi stories work like nothing else. Let's not be influenced by western subjects and western ideas. Make desi subjects, desi films,” he added.

Referring to changing box office benchmarks, he noted how the scale of collections reflects a shift in theatrical expectations. “And genuine collections. Guys, let's thank God. You're not doing Rs 100 crores for the entire lifetime of your film. This is doing Rs 100 crores in a day with genuine collections,” Kohli said.
He concluded his message by thanking the team behind the film. “Thank you Aditya Dhar, Ranveer Singh and Jio Studios for showing us the way and for showing us the potential of our cinema.”
Dhurandhar has been at the centre of widespread industry conversation since its release, not only for its reported box office numbers but also for the scale at which it has entered mainstream discussion around theatrical performance and audience response to locally rooted stories.
