Dharmendra, who has stayed away from the prewedding of his grandson Karan Deol, opens up about his ‘connection’ with the bride-to-be Drisha Acharya’s great grandfather Bimal Roy

Karan Deol is expected to be tying the knot with girlfriend Drisha Acharya in a lavish traditional ceremony in Mumbai on June 18.

The prewedding festivities have already kicked off at the Deol house and, many photos and videos from the mehendi and other functions of Karan Deol, son of Sunny Deol and Drisha Acharya have found its way online. But if someone is missing from all this fun, it is the groom’s grandfather Dharmendra. The veteran actor recently revealed in a news report that he has opted to stay away from the prewedding functions, so that the ‘kids can enjoy the celebrations uninhibitedly’. The star also had another interesting anecdote – his connection with the bride’s family, who is the great granddaughter of prolific filmmaker Bimal Roy.

Talking about his decision to stay away from the prewedding functions of Karan Deol and Drisha Acharya, Dharmendra told Etimes, “Let the children have fun. If I am around they are likely to get inhibited. I do not want them to miss out on any of the fun.” Furthermore, opening up about the renowned filmmaker Bimal Roy, Dharmendra recalled the time he worked with the Bollywood legend. He revealed that he worked on only one film, Bandini (1963) but couldn’t stop gushing about Roy’s talent.

He recalled his Bandini memories and told Etimes, “Very early in my career I had the privilege of being directed by Bimal da in one of his best works, Bandini. Sadly he passed away soon after and I didn't get a chance to work with him again.” He added, “But there was so much that I learnt from working with Bimal da in just one film, although the film centred around the heroine's character. The film had many memorable songs, but none of them was filmed on me." Dharmendra also reminisced about how he was suggested to Bimal Roy by the filmmaker’s assistant Deb Sen and went on to call Bandini as the ‘life-changing moment of his career’.

Dharmendra is expected to also share screen space with his grandson Karan Deol soon in Apne 2, co-starring Bobby Deol and Sunny Deol.
