‘Dekha Tenu’ OG singer Udit Narayan REACTS to recreation of track for Mr & Mrs Mahi: “They did wait for me for four months, and it’s my mistake” : Bollywood News

Legendary playback singer Udit Narayan has addressed the recent remake of his classic song ‘Shava Shava’ from the film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. The recreated version, titled ‘Dekha Tenu,’ features in the new movie Mr & Mrs Mahi and is sung by Mohammad Faiz. Speaking exclusively to News18, Udit Narayan revealed that he was initially approached to sing ‘Dekha Tenu’ but due to a misunderstanding, he couldn't be part of the project.

"They were going to make me sing this song, this is true. They approached me and waited for four months as well," Narayan admitted. "I was told the song was being recreated for a Rajkummar Rao film. Galti wahan hui ke jisne phone kiya, wo clear nahin kar rahe the ke same gaana jo gaaya hai, wo recreate karna hai mujhe."

He admitted that he didn't pay close enough attention to the details and takes responsibility for the confusion. "They [the filmmakers] did wait for me for four months, and it's my mistake," Narayan said. "If I had known it was a recreation for a Karan Johar film, I would have definitely been a part of it.”

Despite missing out on the opportunity, Narayan holds no grudges and is happy for the new singer. "There was confusion here and even I didn’t know but I do remember they waited for me, they wanted me to be a part of the song. If I had gotten a clear picture, I wouldn’t have done this."

While Narayan acknowledges that a part of him feels like he missed out, he's also positive about the situation. "I am a workaholic. I thought whatever songs of mine are getting recreated, I would love to sing them myself. And all of them became popular once again. I shouldn’t have missed the opportunity but somehow there was a mistake," he shared. "But on the bright side, the song that I once sang got recreated and people are loving it. That’s a good sign,” he concluded.

Speaking of Mr & Mrs Mahi, helmed by Sharan Sharma, it is slated to release on May 31.
