Actor Deepika Padukone has voiced concern over rising air pollution levels in Mumbai, questioning authorities about the city’s air quality and its impact on residents. On Thursday, the actor took to Instagram Stories and shared a screenshot showing the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) data. According to the image, the average AQI in Mumbai was around 150, a level considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.
Expressing her concern, Deepika wrote on the image, “This city (and its children) are choking! How is this okay!? @my_bmc @mybmchealth help.” By tagging the city’s civic body, the actor appeared to urge authorities to address the issue and take measures to improve the city’s air quality.
Air pollution has been a growing concern in Mumbai in recent years, with fluctuating AQI levels often raising questions about urban infrastructure, construction activities and environmental management. Public figures speaking about such issues frequently draw attention to the broader impact on public health, particularly for children and vulnerable groups.
Deepika’s social media post comes at a time when the actor has also been in the news for reportedly cancelling a scheduled appearance in Paris. She was expected to attend a high-profile event in the French capital as one of the global ambassadors for luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton.
According to a report by Mid-Day, the actor’s travel plans were disrupted after her flight was cancelled due to international air travel disruptions amid escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia. A source close to the actor told the publication that Deepika had initially confirmed her attendance at the event and had even begun outfit trials in preparation for the appearance.
