Ajay Devgn has done it again. As one of the most versatile actors in the industry who has been around for more than quarter of a century and has been still going strong with a flurry of successes, the superstar has just released De De Pyaar De. Other than the fact that it is a hilarious entertainer with the right dose of drama and message out there as well, what has turned out to be the highlight of the film is Ajay Devgn’s fabulous understated performance.
It isn’t uncommon to see a rich and mature man coming across as suave and sophisticated on the big screen. However, most of the times they are projected as a Casanova. However this is where the beauty of the characterisation put together by Luv Ranjan and Akiv Ali lies. Ajay Devgn is not shown as a skirt chaser here but instead someone who carries a mature take on affairs and wants to be sure about how relationship with two women in his life, current girlfriend Rakul Preet Singh and ex-wife Tabu, would progress.
It is remarkable how he pulls off this part so well as there is no false move while there is no over-projection of the brooding persona either, something that is rightly reserved for the likes of Raid or Baadshaho. In De De Pyaar De, there is a right mix of naughty elements coming in as well, even as Ajay wonders how to face the situation when it comes to dealing with his family back home.
There are distinct sides to the character’s persona that Ajay had to reflect on screen, and he has brought together his years of experience while making dozens of films that have made him relatable and reliable on screen. Right from his dialogue delivery to the trademark expressions that he has given with his eyes to the vulnerability that he has demonstrated through his body gestures, it is a complete actor on display with Ajay Devgn on screen.
Amongst the generation of acting talent that had its origin in the 90s, he is indeed one of the last men standing and De De Pyaar De is a testimony of that.
