While one has seen a bunch of anthology films being made in India in the last few years, very few of them featured stories that were inter-connected with each other. ‘Panch Kriti Five Elements’, a new film which explores five stories, has been directed by Sannjoy Bhargv and features Brijendra Kala, Purva Parag and Umesh Bajpai, in principal roles. The director himself confirms that the five stories, despite having an identity of their own, are connected to each other.

Elaborating on the same, Bhargv says, “At the end of the day, we have made one film which is called ‘Panch Kriti Five Elements’. Even though we are telling five different stories through our film, they are all rooted in the same world. Each of the five stories is based in Chanderi, a small town in Bundelkhand and is inspired from the events that occurred in the town at different points in time. The setting of the story is one of the many factors that bind the five stories together.

One of the stories in the film has been titled ‘Khopdi’ and revolves around an astrologer stumbling upon a skull on a particular day and how it leads to an interesting turn of events. ‘Amma’, the second story, is about a newborn girl whose mother passed away at the time of her birth and because of that, she is treated as a bad omen. The third story named ‘Suataa’ is about a demon who harasses young women. The fourth chapter, is about a group of boys who dress up as girls to play a game called ‘Chapeta’. ‘Parchhayi’ is about a young couple who get affected by an unseen tragedy in their lives.

“We had a bound script in hand from the beginning. In the script, everything was mentioned properly. We always had a clear idea about how the five stories, which are women-centric in nature, would be connected with each other. A common thread runs through all five stories. Because of this, we didn’t face any issues while shooting the film. When the film went on the editing table, the editor told me that he thought that a lot of effort might be required to put the narrative together as it is an anthology film, he was pleasantly surprised to see that the five stories blended into the theme of the film seamlessly”, says Sannjoy.

Promising to offer the kind of cinematic experience never seen before, ‘Panch Kriti Five Elements’, presented by Ubon Vision Pvt Ltd, narrates five unique stories that have not been witnessed in India before. The film, comprising of some of the best talent in the business, releases in theatres soon. For the film, the makers have come up with a unique marketing strategy that involves viewers winning several attractive prizes through a lucky draw.

The five stories in the film aim to educate society about many of the issues plaguing it. Some of the topics discussed in the film are environment (Swachh Bharat), protecting and educating the girl child (Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao), gender parity, women empowerment, female foeticide, spirituality and the strength of our Indian value system.
“Apart from ensuring that the five stories are engaging, we also worked towards making sure they leave an impact on the consciousness of the viewers. We trust the intelligence of our audience and therefore, haven’t tried to spoon-feed them anything. Instead of telling the five stories in a preachy manner, we have narrated them in an engaging manner”, he says.

‘Panch Kriti - Five Elements’, through its special tastefully and creatively made 5 stories, is women and girl-centric.
