Chandrachur Singh visits Aligarh amid dispute over his ancestral Haveli

en Bollywood News Chandrachur Singh visits Aligarh amid dispute over his ancestral Haveli

Veteran Bollywood actor Chandrachur Singh known for roles in films like Maachis, Josh and Kya Kehna is back in the spotlight, this time not for cinema but for a heated family property dispute in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. According to recent reports, Singh travelled to Aligarh with his mother, Krishna Kumari Devi, after alleging that certain family members are trying to illegally seize their ancestral haveli and associated properties.

On Tuesday, the actor along with his family submitted a formal complaint at the office of the district administration. They met Sanjeev Ranjan, the District Magistrate of Aligarh, and also reportedly contacted district police officials including the Senior Superintendent of Police. In their complaint, Chandrachur claimed that there is a surreptitious attempt underway to sell or transfer their ancestral property, a mansion known as Kalyan Bhawan (also referred to as the old “haveli”) without his knowledge or consent.

The disputed estate dates back to 1885. Originally part of the erstwhile village of Jalalpur, the six-acre mansion now lies within urban Aligarh, near a bypass significantly increasing its market value. The property was gifted to Chandrachur’s ancestors by a former royal, and over generations it has come into the family of former MLA, Baldev Singh, Chandrachur’s father.

Chandrachur has accused his aunt and certain relatives of conspiring to grab family assets. He alleges that they attempted to sell the property without informing him or his immediate family. In response, his aunt reportedly filed a counter-complaint alleging assault against his brother — further complicating the matter.

Following the complaint, the district administration has acknowledged receipt of the documents. The DM has assured that the matter will be legally examined. Meanwhile, local authorities have begun preliminary scrutiny of the submitted records and lineage documents to ascertain rightful ownership.

Chandrachur, once a rising star in 1990s Bollywood with aristocratic roots — his mother hails from a royal family in Odisha — finds himself fighting not for a film role, but to safeguard a piece of history and heritage.  Whether the administration’s intervention will restore his claim, or the legal battle turns protracted, remains to be seen.

As of now, both parties have temporarily left Aligarh but the case is expected to proceed with legal hearings and possibly police-level scrutiny.
