The Bollywood Hungama OTT Fest, held on October 3 and 4, 2024, brought together leading voices from the industry to discuss the rapidly evolving world of India's OTT platforms. Over two days, a range of panels featured discussions on content creation, industry trends, and the intersection of entertainment and technology. Actor Abhishek Banerjee, during one such panel, praised Pankaj Tripathi’s stellar acting skills and also shared his thoughts on the challenges actors face when balancing their craft with the pressures of being active on social media.
Abhishek Banerjee stated, “Pankaj bhai itne kamal ke actor hai. I think the character of Kaleen Bhaiya in Mirzapur had become so big that people would love to associate his stardom with that. In Bareilly Ki Barfi he was too good. So he's been doing it since many years. Suddenly, it became bigger than probably his real life persona. And that's why people associate that. Be it OTT stars or film stars or TV star, it is a different medium and it's like, how probably a life of a cricketer would be that you have to succeed in one day T20 and test match. You know, you can't just call yourself a T20 star or a test plan star or, you know, one-day star. You have to, like, play in different mediums. These days, there's an additional pressure for actors to be an Instagram stuff.”
He further added, “I don't make content for that particular medium. I feel that every medium has a different quality. If I'm creating to that and I don't want to work for free for a social media platform. You know, because I'm an actor, I need to be free. I'm acting. So that's why, that's the reason why I don't do many of the stuff which we are supposed to do, to gain followers and gain momentum and all of that. I think Shah Rukh Khan doesn't post every day, there is no bigger star than him. I think the capital, doesn't use social media for his you know, look post and all of that. He's doing it for something else. This social media stardom versus real stardom is a bit of confusion. It's an it's an illusion. It has been completely.”
