Bhushan Kumar breaks silence on actors charging high fees; says, “why we should suffer loss?”

en Bollywood News Bhushan Kumar breaks silence on actors charging high fees; says, “why we should suffer loss?”

Bhushan Kumar opens up about actors demanding high fees.

A lot has been spoken about the actors charging unreasonably high fees which leads to multiple disputes. T-series head and producer Bhushan Kumar recently highlighted the issue where the actor’s escalating fees does not sync with the film budget. Filmmaker Karan Johar talked about how certain actors hiked their fees during the pandemic, despite their films not doing well. KJo said that younger actors demand Rs 30-35 crore without proving themselves at the box office. Head of T-series, Bhushan Kumar shared his concerns regarding the same. He added that while most actors understand the market, there are many who refuse to budge from their stance, leaving producers no option but to not work with them.

Talking to Pinkvilla, Bhushan Kumar said, “So abhi tak toh jin logo se hum baat kar rahe hain, they are talking positively. They are understanding the market. They are not saying ‘nahi, hum understand nahi karenge market ko”.

However, he added, “Yet there are some actors out there, who say we will take only this much, otherwise we won’t do it. So, we don’t work with them, we say don’t do, we also don’t want to do. Why should we suffer losses? So many people have suffered losses in big films and we have seen that. So why we should give you money and we suffer loss, and you earn such a big amount? Ki aap 20 crore, 25 crore lelo and hum nuksaan kare film ka.”

Bhushan Kumar further talking about a win-win situation for the parties, added, “In which we are also earning, the project is also safe, the project is not becoming heavy. But jahaa pe project aapka itni cost nahi le sakta, waha pe hum actors se baat kar rahe hai,” said Bhushan Kumar. He said that the actors have been co-operating and asking for practical fees”.

Speaking to ETimes earlier, producer Ratan Jain had said earlier, "Before 2005, I had never priced an actor above 2.5 crore, be it Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn or any other actor. But after the corporates came in, the same price hiked to 20 crore, 25 crore, 50 crore, 100 crore…There was no regulation. The star system existed since the 1960s. But back then, the actors’ fee was reasonable. It’s true the audience won’t go to watch a film without a star. There are very few films that work on their merit with a newcomer in the lead. So that star system will stay, and there is no problem with it. But if the stars become unreasonable, a producer may have to sell his house. Now some actors have started coming forward and becoming partners for films. But the share that they are asking for also needs to be considered. Some ask for 50 percent, some ask for 80 percent, some even ask for 90 percent share!"

Bhushan Kumar gave a superhit Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 last year, featuring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani. He also confirmed that Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 will go on floors next year.
