Actor Bhumi Pednekar believes the rise of OTT platforms has significantly transformed opportunities for women in the Indian entertainment industry, allowing them to take bolder creative risks and lead stronger narratives.
Speaking at the International Film Festival Delhi (IFFD) 2026, Bhumi highlighted how streaming platforms have reshaped storytelling, especially for female actors. “I feel with OTT, especially for women, the narrative has become a lot stronger, because a lot of those shows, a lot of those films are led by women. Women have always been a lot more courageous and brave while choosing their scripts. OTT just gives them the right platform,” she said.
Having made her debut with Dum Laga Ke Haisha in 2015, Bhumi recently completed a decade in the film industry. Reflecting on her journey, she also shared advice for aspiring actresses navigating the industry.
“Even now in India, we think the world of films is very dangerous, but it's not. Many women have become very capable in this world. If you have a dream, there will be many people who tell you ‘no,’ but you have to listen to that ‘yes.’ Always stay safe and know which people are right and which are wrong. Experience will teach you that,” she added.
The actor also spoke about dealing with criticism and being underestimated. In a recent interview, she shared how negative feedback often fuels her determination. “Actions speak louder than words. For women, that is our most powerful tool. Every time I am undermined, there’s this fire… it motivates me a lot more. I have always used my work as a way of coming back,” she said.
On the work front, Bhumi was last seen in the crime thriller Daldal. In 2025, she featured in the romantic comedy Mere Husband Ki Biwi alongside Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh. She also starred in the Netflix romantic drama The Royals opposite Ishaan Khatter. While the show received mixed critical response, it went on to achieve strong viewership numbers on the platform.
Bhumi’s remarks underline a broader shift in the industry—one where digital platforms are not just expanding content, but also redefining who gets to lead it.
