Bhumi Pednekar defends Animal; says, “a film is a filmmaker’s self-expression” : Bollywood News

Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Bobby Deol, gained much love at the box office with the makers walking away with a massive moolah. The film made record breaking business despite it’s A status but also was at the centre of several criticisms, mainly due to the violence and mistreatment of women portrayed in the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial. Among many celebrities who have defended the film, the recent one to join the list is Bhumi Pednekar, who despite stating her dislike for this kind of genre of cinema, maintained that films, at the end of the day, is the vision and expression of a filmmaker.

In an interview with Lallantop India, Bhumi Pednekar opened up about her dislike towards male centric films adding, "I watched Animal, par mujhe hyper-masculine films mein maza hi nahi aata. Aur ye abhi se nahi, bohat pehle se hain! Hollywood ki bhi action films hain na. mujhe na rom-com, agar mera genre pooche, mujhe woh films zyada pasand aati hai (but I don’t enjoy such kind of hyper-masculine films. And this is not something recent but something I dislike for years, even Hollywood action films is included in it. To be very honest, I prefer to watch rom-coms because I love that genre).”

However, the actress did jump in support of Sandeep Reddy Vanga who has been at the centre of all the flak the film has been receiving for the portrayal of Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and other characters in the film. "I genuinely believe that a film is a filmmaker's self-expression, and that is very important. But as an audience, what you learn from that self-expression, that is the challenge,” she added in the interaction.

Animal also features Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Shakti Kapoor, Triptiii Dimri, Siddhant Karnick, Saloni Batra, along with an ensemble cast. Post the success of this action thriller, the makers have also decided to pursue the film as a franchise with a sequel titled Animal Park being planned.
