The A team of Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai (2023) are back with the revenge drama Bhaiyya Ji. The trailer of the film was was launched in Mumbai in the presence of the star cast and other unit members. As expected, everyone, who spoke on stage, sang praises of lead actor Manoj Bajpayee.
Producer Vinod Bhanushali said, “We discussed Bhaiyya Ji when we were making Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai (2023). Manoj ji expressed the desire to do an action film. Manoj ji himself did 95% of the action scenes in the film.” As expected, there was applause over this statement.
Vinod continued, “I remember going to Lucknow for the shoot of the film. The action scenes were shot a day before. Manoj ji came out of the car and he seemed in distress. I asked him, ‘Kya hua?’. He replied, ‘Yaar, toot gaya hoon’ (laughs)!”
He confessed, “We used to be shit scared when Manoj ji used to be tied with cables and doing action.” He also said, “Hats off to Manoj ji, Apoorv and the whole team. To finish a film on time and that to achieve such a superior product is not easy.”
Director Apoorv Singh Karki explained, “Manoj ji wanted to make Bhaiyya Ji like an independent cinema. I heard the story and asked him ‘Sir, yeh kya kar rahe ho? Yeh (story) mujhe do na aap. Isko larger-than-life banate hai. Then, I called writer Deepak Kingrani and we tweaked the story. Then we narrated it to Manoj ji. He said, ‘Ab toh bahut mazaa aa raha hai’. That is how Bhaiyya Ji happened.”
He added, “I was bored watching certain actors in slow motion! Being a Manoj Bajpayee fan for a long time, I feel ki ab inki baari hai and I feel even people would like to see him in a different way. This is his 100th film and before this, he hasn’t played such a role before.”
Apoorv also talked about his inspiration saying, “I used to watch a lot of Telugu films dubbed in Hindi on television. I got my conviction there. I realized, ‘Sir toh hero dikhte hi hai. It’s just that nobody thought that he can be seen in this avatar’.”
He continued, “This film also has dialogue-baazi like Amitabh Bachchan’s films. The shot of Manoj with a spade is a rooted one. He’s not jumping from the helicopter. The spade is also rooted, used in day-to-day life which we have used in the action. Manoj ji is rooted and grounded and so is our action. Hence, we feel the audience will like the film.”
Going by the realistic portrayal, Manoj Bajpayee didn’t also have a chiselled body. Apoorv reasoned, “In that region, no one has six-pack abs.”
Bhaiyya Ji releases in cinemas on May 24.
