‘Besharam Rang’ choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant speaks about the Pathaan song; says, “Nobody goes to a beach wearing full clothes” : Bollywood News

Among many other reasons, Deepika Padukone’s saffron-coloured bikini in the song ‘Besharam Rang’ became one of the major reasons for the boycott call of Pathaan. However, looking at the figures of advance booking report of the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, Pathaan is expected to do good business. As the release of the film is around the corner, the choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant spoke about her experience of working with Deepika on ‘Besharam Rang’.

In an interactive video shared by YRF on their YouTube handle, Vaibhavi said, "I was very clear that I did not want it to look like a typical Hindi film beach party song. The song is very languid. It is laid back, it is that of adaa (moves). It does not have ki ab steps daalun iss mai, iss mai bohot saare movements daalun. (It was not about adding steps and movements).”

She further added, “Logically, also if the hero met the girl, obviously there has to be chemistry, chemistry building. He cannot just land up at location, and start dancing. This song was about nuances, about adaa, about sensuality and relaxing in your body. Therefore, it made sense for even Shah Rukh's character to lose that shirt of his and walk out. Nobody goes to a beach wearing full clothes.”

Later, she lauded Deepika Padukone and called her a silent worker. Merchant said, “With Deepika, this was a very pleasant day, smooth sailing, calm (experience). She had a way of working things out, rehearsing. And she was very less demanding. I was very excited about the fact that she got the vision. And she was in sync literally she's a bit of a hustler. When I say she's a bit of a hustler, I mean she's not somebody who goes all out, she is a silent worker. She quietly observes what's happening and takes in what somebody's actually letting you know. She is very clever about her work, which is what I like.”

The Siddharth Anand directorial is slated to release on January 25, 2023.
