While spreading the ray of hip-hop throughout India; Beatboxer-turned-DJ, artist Hariharan Aka Harry D Cruz conducted a live seminar on Beatboxing at NIT Trichy. He stunned the students with just a loop machine and his voice to recreate the performance of an entire orchestra by himself.
In 2018, he showcased his beatboxing talent at the Innovative Wine Festival held at Innovative Film City and ranked Top 16 in India Beatbox Championship in 2022. In addition, he also holds the Indian Book of Records for Thai flute beatboxing and the Asia Book of Records for Grandmaster for Thai flute beatboxing.
While talking about his craft and passion for beatboxing, Harry D Cruz said that Beat boxing finds its contemporary roots in the hip-hop subculture in the 1980s in America. Though it took over three decades to reach India, the art has been gaining ground here over the past few years. Now it is widely spreading in mainstream cultural art by using different musicality, with different patterns while focusing on the speed of sound. Musical expression through mouth makes this art very organic.
