The Indian music scene has witnessed a seismic shift with the return of Yo Yo Honey Singh. After a prolonged hiatus, the enigmatic rapper has reclaimed his throne with his latest album, 'Glory'. This comeback has ignited a wave of excitement and nostalgia among fans, and it has also sparked a renewed conversation about his longstanding rivalry with Badshah.
Badshah has been a key figure in the Indian music industry. In the past, he has publicly claimed to have written several of Honey Singh's hit songs, a claim that has been vehemently denied by the latter. This contentious dispute has been a source of tension between the two artists for over a decade.
However, as Honey Singh makes his grand return, Badshah has offered a more measured response. In a recent interview with Musical Satanas, he expressed his admiration for his rival's talent and acknowledged the impact he has had on the Indian music scene. He said, "I’d like to tell Honey Singh if he’s watching this- just make sure you’re surrounded by the right people who are genuinely happy for you and care for you, not because you’re a brand. Health is the most important thing in life. Spend maximum time with your family and loved ones and take care of your mental health. When he resurged back on the scene, I was the happiest for his parents that his parents have got their blessing back. What’s in your destiny God will give you, no one can steal it away from you. Clutter of any pressure needs to be removed. Your mind is devoid of anything besides the joy of making music. Remember why you started making music and how you felt when you made your first song. When you’re mentally happy, everything will fall in place."
Talking about his longtime feud, he added, "Honey Singh was my brother, in the real sense. Of course there is gratitude. The time we spent was great. Even if I was living in my own bubble of thinking he was my brother, it felt right to me then. The conflict was he didn’t treat me as a brother. He was my brother at my core during my youth. There are many memories. We used to have an Octra 0318 with black windows and we used to say we will own the music scene and the city one day. It was just us then and no competition, imagine what would have happened if we were together!"
He added, "My problem was he changed that brotherhood and love into hatred. It was painful for me. You always look upto your brother with hope and I was okay to put in the time, money and effort but I wanted the answers. But 1 year became 5 years and then there was family pressure because there was no money and no songs and I had literally left everything. That pressure can make a young boy suicidal and I had nowhere to go because there were no logical answers, then one fine day everything collapsed! Maybe Honey Singh never realized the magnitude of this pressure and thought everything will happen. He never as a big brother gave any clarity."
In the same interview, he continued, "It was a personal thing and it was about carrying around extra baggage. This was one of the distractions. Why do I need any of this animosity especially since this happened 12 years ago. Property disputes get solved in 101-2 years, He’s also a human and every human being keeps evolving. What happened decades ago shouldn’t dictate my actions today and it would be so foolish. My vision is so different and I don’t want to bring myself down to a level where I’m nurturing this grudge. It was just a moment for me and it was a message for me to say that I’m letting go of things that mentally trouble you. It was a redemption and unburdening of sorts. "
He continued, "As a person I have never held a grudge against anyone ever, then why have I entertained this? I maybe held onto this beef because of the noise around me and somewhere what you’re fed sub consciously affects you and no one tried to mend the issue. This is for my mental peace and the greater vision I have for myself as an artist. Subliminal shots are part of the culture but to give it so much importance, you shouldn’t do it. Though this beef has been a motivation for me. At one point though I felt the fuel is turning into a tumour and why am I letting something in my past dictate the future. I’m psychologically over a lot of it and I don’t let my actions be affected by the beef. In my heart and soul, I don’t want to respond or acknowledge the beef anymore. Let bygones be bygones."
