Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana expressed his opinion that his critically acclaimed movie An Action Hero did not attract a significant audience to theaters due to unfavourable timing of its release. The Bollywood actor attributed the film's underwhelming reception in theatres to the unfavorable timing of its release. Although the action-comedy-thriller, directed by debutant Anirudh Iyer, garnered positive reviews upon its theatrical release on December 2, it failed to meet the expected success at the box office. Interestingly, the film found a more receptive audience when it premiered on Netflix in January.

During a recent interview with news agency PTI, Ayushmann Khurrana discussed the box office performance of his film and shared his thoughts, “It really depends on timing. This is the best time, the theatricals are also back and I am glad mid-budget films are working. It is a great silver lining. I think it was a bad time then. An Action Hero got a lot of love later. I will keep on making these choices. I am sure theatricals will happen and we will do well.”

Khurrana expressed his determination to continue making choices that resonate with audiences and reaffirmed his belief in the potential for success in theatrical releases. He expressed confidence that the industry will bounce back, and he remains optimistic about the future prospects of films in cinemas.

On the film front, he is currently gearing up for Dream Girl 2, which features him in the role of Karamveer Singh, a jobless youth, who takes up the job at a call centre, and gets success after impersonating the voice of a woman named Pooja. The film is a sequel to the 2019 drama which featured Nushrratt Bharuccha in lead role. The upcoming 2023 comedy will have Ananya Panday playing the lead role.
