Arjun Rampal finds Shah Rukh Khan’s reborn “nepo” character in Om Shanti Om “irritating” : Bollywood News

Directed by Farah Khan, Om Shanti Om was a massive commercial success and won several awards for its music and performances, including Arjun Rampal's performance as the antagonist. For the unversed, Arjun Rampal played the role of a villain named Mukesh Mehra in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer. When reminded of his early work, especially Om Shanti Om, Arjun opened up about SRK’s character Om Kapoor in the film and described it as “irritating.”

It all happened during Arjun’s exclusive interaction with Harper’s Bazaar India. When Arjun Rampal was asked about the relationship between SRK’s character and nepotism, Arjun expressed his discontent with the character's depiction, regarding his character's rebirth as a “nepo” as bothersome. He stated that the portrayal of the character as a “nepo” was irritating. He asserted, “When he (Shah Rukh Khan’s character) is born the second time, he comes a nepo (kid). It was an irritating character.” It is worth mentioning here that Arjun couldn’t complete his point as he was interrupted by the interviewer.

The story of Om Shanti Om starts with Shah Rukh Khan portraying the role of a junior artist in the film industry who falls in love with a leading actress named Shanti Priya, played by Deepika Padukone. It turns out that the actress is secretly married to Arjun Rampal's character, a prominent film producer, who murders both Shanti and Om. Subsequently, SRK's character is reincarnated in a famous family and becomes a superstar named Om Kapoor.

Coming back to the interview, Rampal also discussed the unfair advantage that star kids have over outsiders in the film industry. He expressed his belief that if someone from a film family wants to enter the industry, they will have multiple opportunities to do so. According to Rampal, this is due to the person's destiny and the family they were born into. He added that you can't choose your family, as it's predetermined.
