Singer Faiz Mustafa has described A.R. Rahman as a “father figure” in his life, calling the composer an inspiration and a guiding force. Speaking about their bond, Faiz said Rahman has played an important role in shaping his musical journey and continues to support him even as he grows as a professional singer. “I share a very strong bond with my dearest Rahman uncle. He is like a father figure, an inspiration and a guiding path.”

Faiz’s first collaboration with Rahman dates back to when he was just 12. He performed ‘Aao Balma’, a composition by his grandfather Ghulam Mustafa Khan, with Rahman and his family on MTV Coke Studio Season 3. Since then, he has sung tracks like ‘Istigfar’ from the internationally acclaimed film The Goat Life (Aadujeevitham) and has become a regular performer at Rahman’s concerts in India and abroad.
The singer recalled that his first stage performance at 14 was with Rahman. “My first stage performance at the age of 14 was with him at an international show, ‘Wings of Jibrael’, at the Dubai World Trade Centre, where I opened the show,” he said. He is also part of Rahman’s classical ensemble, Jhaala.
Faiz Mustafa has previously sung for films like Heropanti 2 and Maidaan, and has also made his mark through performances and collaborations with leading names in the industry. Most recently, Faiz lent his voice to actor Vijay Sethupathi for ‘Zara Zara’, a song from the upcoming film Gandhi Talks. Composed by A.R. Rahman, the track is said to be an integral part of the film, which is being positioned as a silent feature.
