Aparshakti Khurana opens up about his cricket aspirations and his father’s tough lesson; says, “From the academy to our house, he hit me with a bat”

Aparshakti Khurana initially aspired to join the Indian cricket team before transitioning to acting. As a child, he received coaching and even captained his team. However, his journey took a turn when he disrespected his coach out of insecurity, resulting in a punishment from his father. He feels that this incident shifted his focus away from cricket.

In a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel, Aparshakti shared that he felt insecure about his captaincy when his coach introduced senior players to the team. Feeling threatened, he even requested the opposing team's coach not to lend his players. However, when he showed up for practice the next day, he found himself benched. He said, “I was too naive to understand that the coaches of the two teams would be friends with each other.”

“As fate would have it, my father just happened to come to the academy that day during his morning run. My father saw I wasn't playing and asked the coach why, and the coach told him what I had done.” He added, “You will not believe that for one kilometre, from the academy to our house, he hit me with a bat. And that day, he said something, I don't know if people will resonate with it today, he said the one who disrespects one's guru... he said even if Brahma Vishnu Mahesh (Hindu gods) land on this earth all together, they can't help you get into the Indian national team, because you have disrespected your guru.”

He further stated, “Maybe that's the reason that I... I don't know... maybe there were some energies that I felt like my mind was diverted. Since that day, I have never disrespected. Even today, if someone who is younger than me and comes to train me in the gym, I only call him sir and there is never a point that I disrespect him.”

On the work front, Aparshakti was recently seen in Stree 2 alongside Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, and Abhishek Banerjee. He also lent his voice to Ananya Panday's CTRL, where he played the character Al Allen.
