From spending over 20 months without a release to hitting back with a 300 crore All Time Blockbuster, it has been a massive turnaround for Anushka Sharma. For a leading lady who has been putting her money on films which may be less in count but come with high repute for sure, especially when it comes to the directors she is working with; Anushka Sharma has indeed come a long way from her Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi days. Now suddenly, 2015 is looking even brighter with diverse genre of films in NH10, Bombay Velvet and Dil Dhadakne Do, even as she gears up to begin shooting for Karan Johar‘s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
Between Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola and PK, didn’t it turn out to be too much of a waiting period for you? Wasn’t it frustrating, especially when you had just delivered a 100 crore hit with Jab Tak Hai Jaan?
I will tell you something. When an actor is not coming out with a film or not being spoken about, then people start thinking that he or she is may be out of circulation. However the fact remains that it is during this time when she is actually working. This has been the case with me for last couple of years. I will reap the fruits of that now (smiles).
You were heard stating that when you work on a film, you look at your director for his nod of approval after every scene. How much have Rajkumar Hirani’s words of appreciation mattered to you during PK?
A lot (says promptly). See, even if somebody gives me the highest kind of award that ‘Hey Anushka, you are a great actor’, at the end of the day I need my director to say that. I need his approval. I can never be sure about myself and when it came to working with Hirani, I wanted to see the film through his eyes. A director has already seen the film mentally and I can’t just act and leave it at that. I need to see whether I am in the same mould that my director has created for me. I am led to believe that Hirani was content after all!
How are you seeing your next film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (ADHM) through Karan Johar’s eyes? Considering the kind of credentials (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor) involved with the film, are there any special preparations that you are making for the film?
Karan has offered me a very-very good role and I am very kicked about it. Having said that, as of now there is so much on my platter that I haven’t fully discussed everything with Karan. We have been bouncing off ideas. May be we would get back to discussing ADHM in detail later this month.
