Ranveer Singh is currently receiving strong praise for his performance and dedication in the Dhurandhar duology. While audiences are discussing his intense preparation for the recent films, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has recalled that this level of commitment is not new for the actor. During a conversation with MissMalini, Kashyap spoke about Singh’s dedication and shared an incident from the making of Lootera.
He said, “We are hearing stories about Dhurandhar and how he and Arjun Rampal injured and hurt each other. So, that's how far they went for the role, and the film got amazing numbers, right? But Ranveer Singh, in his second film Lootera, when he gets shot in the climax, to feel that right feeling, he took a clip without telling anyone and clipped himself on the stomach. He went so far as an actor to create that we had to take him to the hospital. The film didn't do the numbers of Dhurandhar, but it's that man's conviction. He didn't share his pain with anyone. Nobody came to know till he couldn't move.”
Lootera released in 2013, marked an important early performance in Singh’s career. The period romantic drama was directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap, and Vikas Bahl. The film was re-released in theatres in March 2025.
More recently, Singh’s work in Dhurandhar The Revenge has added another milestone to his career. The sequel has crossed Rs. 1000 crore in Hindi and emerged as an all-time blockbuster. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the duology also stars Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi in key roles.
Kashyap’s comments highlight how Singh’s approach to performance has remained consistent from the early phase of his career to his recent blockbuster success. The actor’s dedication continues to be one of the most discussed aspects of his journey in the industry.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Anurag Kashyap is currently busy with the release of Dacoit, starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur. The film released today, April 10.
